Course Outline

Learn to create a mosaic for outdoors. This 6 week course is for beginners and those with previous mosaic experience.You will be able to choose to mosaic a planter pot; stepping stone paver or sculptural sphere for the garden, or create a special mosaic house number. Participants can bring one of these items from home, or the course will provide these bases at their cost price. Participants are requested to contact the centre before the course starts to state their preference of base. This is an excellent introduction to creating mosaics for your home or for gifts. Janie will provide helpful information on the variety of mosaic applications and instructions on completing these. Bring along ideas for your design. Tools are supplied by the course. A certain range of tiles will also be supplied. Participants may supplement these supplied tiles with others that they may bring with them. Students are encouraged to source designs prior to attending this course. What will I learn? • Learn how to turn inspiration into a mosaic design • Prepare mosaic base • Understand the relationship between design and textures * Understand the materials required for outdoor mosaics. • Transfer your design to base • Prepare, cut and fix tiles to base • Receive mentoring as your work towards completion of mosaic • Practice finishing techniques such as grouting, cleaning and polishing About your teacher Janie Andrews is a painter, textile and mosaic artist with over 30 years of experience of running her own company to create one off special artworks through commissions, residencies and for exhibitions. Janie enjoys sharing her skills through workshops with people from many walks of life and spends a lot of time as a Visiting Artist to facilitate and create special artworks with artists and communities both remote and urban.
